A bird may be the perfect pet for you as they require some care, of course, but not so much as other pets that you might have. Some of the best pet birds are the small sized varieties, like finches, parakeets, or canaries, although a bit more attention to their climate and surroundings is required. Other than feeding, watering, and cleaning they are essentially self caring birds, they also tend to be pleasant companions.

If you have a lot of time the best pet bird for you could likely be one of the large size varieties, parrots, macaws, or a cockatoo. These are bigger varieties of birds which are good companions, great at interacting, and are generally super pets.  Besides these types of birds can be taught to talk to you if you have the time to spend with them. They are quite easy to care for, but require some attention to detail, although they can spend some time alone if you are someone who is gone a great deal of time during the day.

Medium sized birds that may be on your list of best pet birds, based on the time you have to care for them are the Lorikeet, peach faced love bird, cockatiel, African Grey Parrots, or any one of the other medium sized parrots. All of these require minimal care, other than climate, health and regular feeding and watering.  As a bonus, if you have more time, they can be taught to do tricks or talk.

The best type of bird as your pet will depend on your available time and energy that can be invested in your relationship with the bird. Parakeets, Lorikeets, and finches require only clean surroundings, regular feeding, and watering. They are low maintenance and do not take a lot of your energy or time. If you are working eight hours per day and do not have a lot of time to give to a pet, this will be one of the best that you can have. The best pet bird for a busy person will be a low maintenance pet bird.

If you wish for something that will take some time and effort, but may eventually interact with you as a companion, as opposed to simply a pet to watch and enjoy, then you are going to want one of the larger varieties and work with it consistently to get it to do it's tricks and to speak. If you do have time, and wish to find this kind of pet relationship then a larger variety is the best pet bird for you.
